I loved the description and story about your teacher Geshe Gendun Chompel.
I feel the same way or similar way about my root guru Lama Zopa Rinpoche although I rarely see him and rarely write letters but it’s as if he is part of me on whom I rely. And therefore my life is not a problem – though I sometimes act like it is !
